8 November 2020   -   The 1985 edition of the World Championships Shorttrack Speedskating took place in Amsterdam. The video of this Championship can now be seen on the page WebTV of Shorttrackonline.info.
   
    It was a special World Championships as the sport of shorttrack was developping very fast in these years. From 8 countries in 1978 every year more countries came to compete in the World Championships. The World Championships of Amsterdam 1985 was the biggest untill that moment with 16 competing countries with new among them the countries Norway, Poland and Switzerland.
   
    At the First Championships of 1978 in Solihiull (GBR) Australia and the USA were the strongest, but year by year Canada took over this role. Untill the 1985 edition in Amsterdam. Japan came as a tornado into the competition and won everything. The Individual World Champions were Toshinobu Kawai and Eiko Shishii.
   
    At the 1985 edition the Relay was for the First time an official World Championship. Also here Japan was the strongest in both the Ladies as Mens competition.
