- From 7-9 March the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships are held in Erzurum - Turkey. Although the Turkish Ice Skating Federation already had organized the 2011 Winter Universiade, it is the first time in history that Turkey is hosting a Worldchampionships in Short Track. Erzurum is a city on 1000 km east of Istanbul and is and was in history an important centerpoint for the trading routes from Europe to Asia. It is a real winter sport center at the foot of Paland�ken Mountain at an altitude of almost 2000 meter. The Yenisehir Icerink is hosting this championships for which 188 skaters from 39 countries came to Erzurum.
