ISU European Championships Malmö
17 January 2013
- From 18-20 of january the ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships will be held in Malmö-Sweden. Over 130 skaters from 27 countries have been entered for this event. Sweden has a long history in Speed skating. It is a country with many lakes, a lot of snow and a lot of natural ice. It is the home country of many famous skaters from the past like Hasse Börjes, Göran Claesson, and Thomas Gustafson in Long track and Martin Johanson and Daniel Jansson in Short track. It is also the country and the city of Malmö which hosted the first official European Championships in 1997, after a serie of Europe Cup competitions was held in Leeuwarden, Schotland and Oberstdorf. Sweden organised in Short Track also the 2003 edition of the Worldcup and in 2004 a Worldchampionship. For this year the 17th edition of the European Championships has a higher level then ever before so it looks like Malmö will be for the shorttrack family a very important and exciting weekend.
