Samsung ISU World Cup Salt Lake City

20 October 2008   -   On 17-19 october the first Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track of this season was held at the Utah Olympic Oval of Salt Lake City. Korea dominated the competition with China and Canada as a good runner-up. The 1500m distance was skated twice. The ladies 1500m was won by Yang Zhou (CHN) and Sae-Bom Shin (KOR). In the first 1500m for men Si-Bak Sung (KOR) took the win. In the second Jung-Su Lee (KOR) was the best. In the ladies 500m Meng Wang (CHN) demonstrated her power and on the men’s side, the 500m was a close contested race with six skaters in the event. Si-Bak Sung (KOR) was the winner. The ladies 1000m was for Meng Wang (CHN). The men’s 1000m event was an all-Korean affair, with Yoon-Gy Kwak winning the race. His Korean teammates Ho-Suk Lee and Jung-Su Lee finished second and third respectively. In the ladies 3000m relay, the Chinese team finished before the Korean team, while the team from Canada finished third. In the men’s 5000m relay the team of Korea finished ahead of the crowds-favorite, the United States. The men’s Canadian team finished third.
